100 days until the grand final of the British Triathlon Super Series in Sunderland


There are 100 days left until Sunderland hosts the British Triathlon Super Series Grand Final and to mark the milestone, details of attendance, volunteering and spectatorship during the swim, bike and run weekend have been revealed .

Taking place over the weekend of August 20-21, 2022, this year’s British Triathlon Super Series Grand Final will bring together athletes from the Youth & Junior, Senior and Paratri British Triathlon Super Series for a race weekend packed with fun. ‘stock.

There will be something for everyone to get involved throughout the weekend of the event, whether it’s completing their own swimming activity, cycling, running, volunteering at the event or watch the action unfold around the course at Roker, Sunderland.

As well as the British Triathlon Super Series races, inter-regional championships and a Great Britain Age Group Team Qualifier, families and adult participants will also have the opportunity to get involved as they can compete at two different distances.

Registration is now open for the Family and Adult events where families can compete side-by-side in a 50m swim and 1km run, while The Big Swim Bike Run (adult) will consist of a 100m swim, 6 km bike, 2 km run.

Speaking of the participation opportunities in Sunderland, which are part of a wider plan for swimming, cycling and running in the city, Helen Marney, Director of Development at British Triathlon, said:

“It’s a really exciting time for swimming, cycling, running in Sunderland and the British Triathlon Super Series Grand Final provides a great opportunity not only to watch some of Britain’s top triathlon talent, but also to engage in swimming, cycling, running, including with family and friends.

“Family and Adult Events are new to our offering and are perfect for anyone wanting to participate in swimming, cycling, running for the first time or wanting to take on their own challenge. The Family Event is a swimming format , race and provides a fantastic opportunity for families to do something active and fun together while making memories in a fun, non-competitive environment.

“I encourage as many people as possible to take this opportunity to experience the fun and benefits of swimming, biking, running over the weekend of the event, and the many opportunities that will follow through our wider work with Sunderland City Council and other local organizations which we are extremely happy to work with.”

A key part of the British Triathlon performance journey, the British Triathlon Super Series offers a national series of events and athlete development opportunities for the UK’s best athletes.

With the Super Series Grand Final being one of three major events in British Triathlon in 2022, recruitment is currently open for volunteers to support the delivery of the event.

There are a range of volunteer roles available – including supporting registration and transition, preparing routes during athlete competition and operating aid stations – all of which offer a great opportunity to be a part of and contribute to the success of the event.

Throughout the weekend, spectators will be able to line the race course at Roker with many fantastic places to watch, including where the start and finish will be on Marine Walk, sea swimming around Roker Beach, the bike stage through Roker Park and along the waterfront and the race past the marina.

The event is part of a wider partnership between British Triathlon and Sunderland City Council to increase opportunities around swimming, cycling, running in the city, with Sunderland also set to host a stop in the series triathlon world championships in 2023.
