Crow Reboot director still believes his vision could happen someday

Corin Hardy, who was scheduled to helm The Crow’s Jason Momoa-led reboot, suggests “there’s no reason not to do a lot more with this character.”

Corin Hardy, who was scheduled to helm the ill-fated reboot of The crow starring Jason Momoa, is still hoping his plans for the film someday come to fruition. Hardy, who made his directorial debut in the 2015 horror film the coronation, also crossed out the 2018 Conjuring derivative film The nun. In 2014, Hardy was chosen to replace F. Javier Gutierrez as director of the long, stagnant reboot, which had remained in various stages of development for almost 10 years before also leaving the project.

Based on the famous James O’Barr comic book series, The crow tells the tragic story of a young man named Eric Draven, who returns from the dead to take revenge on a gang of street thugs responsible for the brutal murder of himself and his fiancee. In 1993, production of the original film adaptation suffered a tragic on-set crash that resulted in the death of its lead star, Brandon Lee, son of martial arts legend Bruce Lee. However, the director of the original film, Alex Proyas, was still able to finish the film using CGI and a body double for Lee’s remaining scenes. Then, in 2008, work on a reboot was officially announced, with production going through several potential leads, including Bradley Cooper, Luke Evans, and Tom Hiddleston.

In 2018, it seemed like after a decade of development, things were finally going well until Hardy and Momoa each announced their respective departures. Despite the long history of unsuccessful attempts to bring The crow Back on the big screen, Hardy still thinks there’s still room for a potential reboot. Think about the project with Comicbook.com, Hardy suggests “there is no reason not to do much more with this character”, And still clings to his plans just in case. Check out what he had to say below:

It’s a story that I’m just in love with and got married to and put in three and a half years, four years of life and love and blood and sweat and tears, and I ‘ve got a ton of material so I don’t know if someday … I guess I don’t really want to show them off because I still believe there will be a crow someday, but we’ll see.

I think James O’Barr’s original graphic novel Crow and the other subsequent iterations of this character in the comics, there’s no reason not to do a lot more with this character, the concept of The Crow, the mythology of The Crow, and the tone and what it represents is still unique in the world we are in right now.

The idea of a restart of The crow has long been a controversial topic among the public. While the various sequels of the original 1994 film did not all live up to their predecessors, Proyas’ film is still considered a cult classic that is the latest testament to Brandon Lee’s enormous talent. Even Proyas himself has suggested that a reboot is “kind of unbornCesaire”. While many viewers were undoubtedly disappointed to learn that Momoa’s turn as Eric Draven would not go forward, others are also said to have released a breath of relief that Lee’s legacy would continue to remain intact.

In a world filled with franchise reboots, however, Hardy is probably correct in assuming that there will be some interest in resurrecting the franchise at some point in the future. When that day comes, fans of The crow will undoubtedly cross their fingers that everything produced treats the original film with the respect and reverence it deserves. As for Hardy’s plans, time will only tell if they ever get a chance to see the light of day.
