Gremlins director Joe Dante isn’t a fan of Grogu

“I think the longevity of [the films] is really the key to this character [Gizmo], who is basically like a baby,” Dante said in a video chat with the site (who says he gave a “wry smile” when he spoke). Baby Yoda, who is completely stolen and is just completely copied. Shameless, I think.”

Although I disagree with him, let me say up front that I love Dante’s work. He is responsible for films like “Innerspace”, “Gremlins 2: The New Batch”, “Small Soldiers” and “The ‘Burbs”. Now he is consulting on the upcoming anime series “Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai”, which features the voices of Ming-Na Wen, BD Wong and James Hong which will air on HBO Max, which I am very excited about.

He may be completely kidding, but Mr. Dante, there’s room in the world for all kinds of cute things. For example, when I was a child, I walked around with a Gizmo plush in my backpack, and I too have a “talking” Grogu on my desk. If we look at what could have been “completely stolen”, I’d say “Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance” would have a better case here, up to and including that scene where Grogu has to choose an object to determine the rest of his life.
