ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – 10-year-old Beahlen Deacon lights up when you ask her about her time on stage.
âI did a lot of theater … I like to play comedy. It’s my thing. This is my first time at PB and J, and I love it, âshe says.
Beahlen is one of the campers of the new PB&J theater company.
For her, there is nothing more fun than being with other children who share her love of the show.
âI think I know people like to watch me play with my fellow actors and I like it when I’m on stage. There is
so many kids like me who love to play as much as I do, âsays Beahlen.
Director Pat Wilhelms says PB&J Theater started partnering with Roanoke Ballet Theater to provide affordable youth
opportunity to learn both theater and dance. âRBT was researching the theater component of the Roanoke Ballet Theater and asked if
I would give acting lessons in the neighborhood, so that was the springboard. So it kind of bloomed in the summer
camps, courses all year round, âexplains Wilhelms. We also asked how does PB&J get its unique name?
âI just loved it. What can I say ? He says youth. However, fun, and our slogan feeds the creative spirit. So feeding and feeding at the same time is our raison d’être, âshe says.
Whether your child is a veteran of the scene, like Beahlen, or just trying his or her acting skills, Wilhelms says PB&J Theater is the place for them.
âIt’s about developing their empathy skills, their self-confidence,â says Wilhelms.
Beahlen is a shining example of this confidence.
She says any kid who thinks they might be interested should try PB&J Drama Camp.
âIt’s so much fun. I highly recommend it. They should expect to return home happily, âsays Beahlen.
