Ritz Theater Company announces 2021-22 schedule


(HADDON TOWNSHIP, NJ) – After 15 months with nothing but a ghost light on stage due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Ritz Theater Company is set and ready to reopen its doors and shine the lights once more, heralding a new season of powerful, energetic and inspiring plays and musicals.

“It’s an incredible feeling to finally be back,” says Bruce A. Curless, artistic director of production. “While the current theater has sat dormant for over a year, the passion, drive and commitment of our Ritz family has only grown stronger. We have planned a spectacular new season for all of us, full of music and great stories celebrating culture and diversity. “

The start of the 2021-2022 season for The Ritz is Once on this island, a musical from the songwriters team of Tony Award-winning Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. With a Caribbean-tinged score, the musical follows the story of Ti Moune as she continues her quest to prove that love is stronger than death. For the holiday season, the Ritz is proud to present an original “Panto” production of the (crazy) creative mind of Mr. Curless and local music maestro Brian Bacon, titled The Absolute Fantastic Adventures of Cindy Ella and the One and Future Golden Christmas Goose in the Merry Years After Endless Plague: A Short Panto. This one promises to be a lot of fun, a quick and fun treat for the whole family from start to finish. This original play takes place from December 3, 2021 to December 19, 2021.

The Ritz kicks off the new year with a Black Box production of William Finn and James Lapine’s groundbreaking musical Falsettos, a hilarious and painfully poignant look at the endless possibilities that make up a modern family, revolving around the life of a charming, intelligent and neurotic gay man named Marvin, his wife, lover, son about to be Bar-Mitzvahed , their psychiatrist and the lesbians next door. Falsettos runs from January 7, 2022 to January 23, 2022.

Next, The Ritz will introduce comedy fans to a new production of the longtime hit Off-Broadway. Big Tuna, a hysterical send-off of small town morality that can best be described as a farce trick in the art of rapid change, in which two actors work in tandem to create the entire population of Tuna, the third smallest town in the Texas. This show runs from February 11, 2021 to February 27, 2022.

To kick off spring, the Ritz is preparing to stage a dynamite production of Tic, Tic… BOOM! This autobiographical musical by Jonathan Larson, Pulitzer Prize-winning and Tony Award-winning composer of Rental, is the story of a composer and the sacrifices he made to achieve his great breakthrough. As the flowers bloom, the Ritz will offer the public Historical reconstitution, a unique musical experience in which six candidates compete in several categories with the aim of winning the coveted position of Miss Glamouresse.
