The university community mourns the death of Kim Bohmann, administrative associate of theater and dance


LAWRENCE – The University of Kansas community mourns the death of Kim Bohman, administrative assistant in the Department of Theater and Dance. Bohmann, 62, died June 3.

“I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Kim Bohmann, who was a welcoming presence to our students and who served the university for more than 20 years,” Chancellor Douglas A. Girod said. “On behalf of the entire university, I express my deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues at KU.”

Bohmann began working for the university in 2001 at Watkins Health Services, where she held administrative support positions. She joined theater and dance in 2007 and worked as an administrative associate.

The department is remember Bohmann for the support she has given to her non-profit organization, Friends of the Theatre, and how many members of the KU community remember and appreciate her.

Jim Dick, executive director of theater and dance, said Bohmann was a wonderful colleague, a dear friend and was especially dedicated to the welfare of students in the department.

“I’ve received dozens of messages from former students sharing their memories of her and the love and support she gave them,” Dick said. “Her office was a warm and safe space, and many called her their ‘KU Mom’. She will be missed by all of us.”

A Celebration of Life will be held from 3-7 p.m. on June 10 at Clinton Lake Overlook Park in Shelter #1.
