Harrisburg’s oldest operating room has a new chief to guide its daily operations.
On Tuesday, Theater Harrisburg announced that Lorien Reese Mahay is its new Executive Director, effective October 4.
âWe were looking for an inspiring and dynamic leader to guide Theater Harrisburg into the future, and Lorien was all we hoped for,â said Becky Mease, Chair of the Theater Harrisburg Board of Directors. “We are delighted that Lorien brings her vast experience to our team and optimistic for the future of Theater Harrisburg with her at the helm.”
According to Theater Harrisburg, Mahay has over a decade of experience in theater management, education, and fund development. Most recently, she was Associate Director of the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science, based in Stony Brook, NY
She also served as Associate Director of Development at the Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor, NY, and Program Director at the Watermill Center, an interdisciplinary laboratory for the arts based in Water Mill, NY.
Mahay holds a BA in Theater from Calvin College and an MA in Dramaturgy from Stony Brook University.

Theater Harrisburg said it plans to host a community welcome event for Mahay in early December.
Founded in 1926, the Harrisburg Theater is one of the oldest community theaters in the country. It is scheduled to open its 96th season on October 22 with “The SpongeBob Musical,” which runs through November 7 at the Whitaker Center.
